  • Burghound, January 2004, Score: 89-91

This is really quite pretty too but it can't match the depth and explosive quality of the Griotte. Still, there is good complexity on the high-toned red fruit nose cut with an almost pungently earthy character followed by a very fresh, intense and precise palate impression and fine length. Drink: 2010-2019.Notes: from a .60 ha parcel.

  • Matthew Jukes, November 2003

2002 Chapelle-Chambertin, Grand Cru – Ah, much more difficult – Chapelle is short, squat and unyielding. It also has dry tannins and a closed mid-palate. This isn't a patch on the Griotte.I am finding it hard to write any more, so I'll press the ejector seat button!

  • Clive Coates, January 2004

CHAPELLE-CHAMBERTINFirmer. Less succulent. More acidity.Slightly harder and less rich. Good weightand grip. But it is the Griotte which singstoday. But this has more depth. From 2012.

Their combination of late picking, destemming, and ageing in old oak barrels achieve the domaine’s distinctive style of long-lived wines. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and the estate is now run by his sister, Rose Marie Ponsot. Alexandre Abel has joined the team as régisseur, and together they continue to uphold these three principles of the estate. Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations. The estate has eschewed the fashion of using new oak barrels to age the wines, preferring seasoned casks which act as an “elevage” vessel rather than imparting barrel flavours. As Alexandre says “we want our wines to taste the maximum of the true fruit and terroir flavours that nature provides us with".Read less

Chapelle Chambertin

One of the nine Grand Crus vineyards within the Gevrey Chambertin area. Chapelle-Chambertin's vineyards are on gentle slopes, sheltered from the elements by woods to the north. The thin rocky soil forces the vines to work hard. The exceptional wines produced in Chapelle-Chambertin are complex, powerful and incredibly long-lasting.
