Goedhuis, April 2012, Score: 92-95
This famous estate’s white wine needs few introductions. Crisp intense citrus and grapefruit fruit aromas. In the palate these lively fruit flavours are supported by subtle floral and white peach flavours. A mouthfilling wine with great balance and subtlety and its huge quality on the finish made it very difficult indeed to accept the Chateau’s spittoon in the middle of the tasting room!!!

James Suckling, April 2012, Score: 97-98
Amazing nose of dried fruits from peaches to apples to mangos. Pink grapefruit too. Full and very powerful white with an incredible length and intensity. It's like a beautiful block of velvet in your mouth. It goes on for minutes. It becomes so mineraly and subtly fruity at the end. Turns just to honey. Wow.

Decanter, April 2012, Score: 18
Pale lemon gold, dry herbs and dry honey over vibrant purity of fruit, great precision and length. A beautiful vineyard wine with a great future. Drink 2014-2025. (4 stars).

Jancis Robinson, April 2012, Score: 17.5
Inviting, creamy mealy citrus aroma. Lemon tart, oak delicate on the nose. Reassuring. Firm and savoury and rich on the palate but with great acidity. Greengage and grapefruit complementing each other. Power and freshness combined. Concentrated citrus purity on the end. Good length. Drink 2015-2025.

Wine Spectator, April 2012, Score: 91-94
Very high-toned today, with a whiff of talcum powder giving way to bright sweet pea and lime notes. The tightly wound finish lets herb and fleur de sel flecks peek out, but there's serious length in reserve.
Region
Pessac-Léognan
Stretching from the rather unglamorous southern suburbs of Bordeaux, for 50 km along the left bank of the river Garonne, lies Graves. Named for its gravelly soil, a relic of Ice Age glaciers, this is the birthplace of claret, despatched from the Middle Ages onwards from the nearby quayside to England in vast quantities. It can feel as though Bordeaux is just about red wines, but some sensational white wines are produced in this area from a blend of sauvignon blanc, Semillon and, occasionally, muscadelle grapes, often fermented and aged in barrel. In particular, Domaine de Chevalier is renowned for its superbly complex whites, which continue to develop in bottle over decades. A premium appellation, Pessac-Leognan, was created in 1987 for the most prestigious terroirs within Graves. These are soils with exceptional drainage, made up of gravel terraces built up in layers over many millennia, and consequently thrive in mediocre vintages but are less likely to perform well in hotter years. These wines were appraised and graded in their own classification system in 1953 and updated in 1959, but, like the 1855 classification system, this should be regarded with caution and the wines must absolutely be assessed on their own current merits.
