Always one of the easiest Grands Crus to taste, this just jumps out of the glass. A wonderfully generous style. This has delicious summer pudding flavours, with hints of treacle toffee. It is broad with rounded ripe tannins and a good drive of acidity at the end. Very good indeed.

The 2014 Corton Bressandes Grand Cru has another detailed, precise and quite mineral-driven bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is poised on the entry, linear and taut with tart red cherry fruit mixed with strawberry and a touch of oyster shell coming through on the finish. Very fine, even if the Corton Marechaudes may have the upper hand with bottle age. We will see! Drink 2018-2032
An aromatic nose, with hints of pink rose petal. This is silky and sophisticated. It is large in the middle, quite a lot of volume, but much airier than the Marechaudes, an elegant curvaceous body, the tannins are fine and lightly grained…the finsh is cool, straight and mineral..white chalky minerality and very long. Francois says “a little earthy - you see it from a far…something in the soil and then this develops as the wine ages.”
The Grands Crus of Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay are shared between Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses. The vines for both are planted on the hillsides underneath the plateau of Corton's woodland forest. The majorityof Pinot Noir is planted in the southern and eastern sector where the soil is naturally rich with red iron clay giving additional body and power. Overall, the wines from these areas tend to be fruit forward and fleshy with a balance of round edges and fine concentration.
