  • Goedhuis, February 2022

The drive and energy of the 50% Cabernet Sauvignon is the controlling feature of this high class Pauillac and provides a sense of grandeur to reflect its provenance. A perfume of fresh herbs, mint and pure currants. This has the direct intensity associated with Cabernet alongside a purity of fruit, which combines perfectly with the fleshy richness provided by the Merlot (45%) and a touch of exuberance from the Petit Verdot bringing characters of sloe and damson. The finish is subtle, very long and beautifully alive. It just flows across the palate. Delicious.

  • Antonio Galloni, April 2015, Score: 88-90

The 2014 Pauillac is an attractive, mid-weight offering that will likely drink well as soon as Latour decides to release it. Crushed rose petal, plum, mint, sweet herbs and red stone fruits add nuance in a delicate, lithe wine that shows the more feminine side of Pauillac.

  • Wine Advocate, April 2019, Score: 88

Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2014 Le Pauillac de Château Latour leaps from the glass with raspberry pie, kirsch and blackberry preserves scents followed by more serious notions of cigar box, tilled soil, fallen leaves and blackcurrant pastilles. Medium-bodied, refreshing and mineral laced, with a chewy frame, it has plenty of savory layers and an herbal lift on the finish. The blend here is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot.

  • James Suckling, March 2015, Score: 90-91

A beautiful balance and savory character to the third wine of Mouton. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Mostly cabernet and merlot but the 7% petit verdot gives something extra.

Region

Pauillac

Due south of St Estèphe lies the appellation of Pauillac, the king of Left Bank communes. It is home to three first growths as well as a plethora of other classified growths. Pauillac's renowned well-draining, gravelly soils enable its dominant grape Cabernet Sauvignon to reach fantastic heights of complexity and concentration. As a result, Pauilac's wines tend to be full-bodied with compact tannins and good freshness. Its aromatics are often what one associates with classic Bordeaux: pencil shavings, black currant and occasional mint. Some of the most famous châteaux of the commune are Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, Pichon Baron, Pichon Lalande and Lynch Bages.
