Goedhuis, April 2021
This 2016 Barolo is a blend of three vineyards in Serralunga. It is beautifully fragrant with aromas of cherry, dark rose, violet and minerals. The palate has that famous Serralunga power yet is wonderfully soft and inviting. Wild strawberry and red fruits weave through fine, grainy tannins and a round, integrated structure of spice, star anise and dark fruits. It finishes on a fresh bite of pomegranate.

Antonio Galloni, April 2021, Score: 91
Sergio Germano’s 2016 Barolo del Commune di Serralunga d’Alba is soft and fruity yet classically leaning in build, which makes it extremely appealing and an excellent choice for near-term drinking. Sweet red berry fruit, spice and dried flowers all grace this beautifully perfumed, gracious Barolo. Drink 2022-2030.

Wine Advocate, April 2021, Score: 94
Ettore Germano is a true protagonist of Serralunga d'Alba, and this wine shows expertise and passion for territory. The 2016 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba delivers the characteristics one would associate with this growing area that is associated with some of the most structured and powerful Baroli, thanks to the unique calcareous clay soils found here. You get dark fruit, spice, tar and lots of tangy licorice or aniseed. Those licorice aromas veer toward medicinal with balsam herb and camphor ash. This vintage has it all wrapped up into one neat package. Just give it a bit more time to soften. Some 9,500 bottles will be released in September 2020. Drink 2023-2038. Monica Larner
Region
Piedmont
Piedmont is located in the north western corner of Italy. Though several grape varieties are prominent such as Dolcetto, Barbera and Moscato, it is Nebbiolo that reigns supreme. It produces wines that are not particularly deep in colour, yet they are perfumed, powerful and can age for many years. Due to the ethereal nature of the Nebbiolo grape and the numerous single vineyard wines, many compare top examples to grand cru Burgundies of the Côte de Nuits.Mountainous, its vineyards are cut into the hillsides forming terraces reminiscent of the Mosel Valley in Germany and the northern Rhone Valley in France. The two most notable appellations are Barolo and Barbaresco.
