    Le Potazzine always delivers a smooth and silky style with extreme elegance and the lifted cool-climate fruit that you get from this high-altitude growing site. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is taut and firm with cherry fruit, dried raspberry, tilled earth, spice and blue flower. The wine sees an extended fermentation of 40 days and ages in botte grande for 42 months. This is a well-balanced wine that is slightly thinner, with one notch lower intensity in this vintage compared to past editions. You get a light, sharp and streamlined style. I prefer the 2015 vintage slightly to this wine, but I'm suggesting a longer drinking window here. Drink: 2023 – 2043.

    This is a cooler style of Brunello with blueberries, black cherries, crushed stones and lavender. It’s full-bodied with firm, tight tannins. Yet, it opens at the end to pinpointed fruit and tannins. Give this time to soften. Drink 2024+

    The remarkably pretty 2016 Brunello di Montalcino shows a pure bouquet full of wild strawberries, woodland berries and herbs with a hint of crushed stone. It’s soft and enveloping, displaying fleshy red fruits, savory spice and salty minerals, while vibrant acids maintain wonderful freshness. It’s only at the very end that its youthful structure comes forward, grippy and classically drying, yet under an air of red licorice and inner rose. There’s a beautiful harmony to this vintage of Le Potazzine, which should provide a long and wide drinking window. Drink 2024 - 2034.

    Soft smudgy ruby. Spicy senescent red fruit. Fruity tobacco sweetness. Very dry grippy tannins increased by the acidity – challenging structure at the moment but there's plenty of fruit leaving a long spicy aftertaste. Situated southwest of the town of Montalcino, the estate boasts some of the highest vineyards in the region at 507 metres. This high altitude mitigates any heat damage that may affect plantings at lower levels, while airflow from the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west allows the vines to benefit from long warm days and cool evenings. In the winery, sole focus is on achieving harmony and finesse and, ever since the first vinification in 1993, Le Potazzine has been producing wines in the most natural way possible. Natural fermentation, a lengthy maceration process, and ageing in Slavonian oak, means that the wines of Le Potazzine are recognisable in their subtlety and matchless character.Read less

Montalcino

Located southwest of Chianti, Montalcino came into its own in the late 1880s when local producer,Biondi-Santi, discovered a Sangiovese clone in his vineyard that was darker in colour than the rest. Its colour, however, was not its only attribute. It produced a wine with notable body, structure and length. He named it ‘brunello' meaning little dark one. This grape's genetic properties along with Montalcino's relatively temperate climate combine to create a wine stylistically different to that of more northerly Chianti. They are usually released approximately 5 years after the vintage following 2 to 4 years ageing in wood. The denomination of Riserva indicates a wine usually produced with more concentrated grapes than the traditional cuvéeand requires a minimum of one additional year of ageing.Today, Montalcino has become one of the most sought after appellations in the Tuscan region.

Other wines
