    The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots has a very pure bouquet, a similar fruit profile to the Beaumonts but with more ripeness, a little more vivacious and charming in keeping with the Suchots style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity, more sensual and denser than the Beaumonts, with a corpulent finish perhaps more common in 2015. This is an outstanding Les Suchots. Drink 2021-2045

    Compared to the Beaux Monts, here the nose of plum, dark cherry and violets is spicier and a bit more deeply pitched if perhaps not quite as elegant. There is a really lovely inner mouth perfume to the richer and more seductively textured but less mineral-inflected flavors that conclude in a wonderfully long, stylish and classy finish. This also should drink reasonably well in its youth but age well too over the mid to perhaps even longer-term. Outstanding. Drink: 2026+

    Bright red with ruby tones. More inky and slightly higher-toned than the Beaumont, offering very dark, nuanced aromas and flavors of black cherry, dark raspberry, violet, cocoa powder and crushed rock. Rich, ripe, broad and sedate in the mouth, but with excellent energy and lift. Finishes saline, tactile and very long, with a somewhat more tannic impression than the Beaumonts; I suspect this wine will be slower to evolve.

    The domaine’s vines in Les Suchots are very old, planted just after the phylloxera epidemic, and they performed well in 2016. Notes of ripe cherry and currant mingle with spice, grilled meat and a framing of new oak in an incipiently complex bouquet, introducing a full-bodied, sappy and concentrated wine with a fine but firm chassis of chalky tannins. This will be lovely with some bottle age. Drink 2024-2040

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.

Other wines
