  • Goedhuis, November 2018

The Gros parcel of Echezeaux is one of the finest in the appellation, planted with 90 year old vines. The volume of decadent, rippling red fruit here carries the new oak well. It has supreme balance in its perfectly weighted body and refined but structural tannins.

  • Neal Martin, January 2019, Score: 92-94

The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru comes from vines over 90 years old and is matured entirely in new oak. It has a very pure, seductive bouquet of black cherry and raspberry fruit infused with pressed iris and hints of India ink. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and gentle grip, stiffening a little toward the finish, which just needs a little more flesh to come through. Afford this five years in bottle if possible, because it shows fine balance. 2023 - 2040

  • Burghound, April 2019, Score: 88-92

Moderate wood surrounds the spicy nose that is comprised by notes of Asian-style tea, plum and violet. The succulent and velvet-textured medium-bodied flavors possess mouth coating sap yet the finish the very firm finish is a bit drying and woody. Like the Arvelets, this may well harmonize in time but that's not a guarantee. Drink 2029+

Region

Echézeaux

One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
