Neal Martin, January 2019, Score: 91-93
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Cherbaudes 1er Cru already has a cohesive, quite intense bouquet with violet petals that infuse the blueberry and black cherry fruit, just a hint of vanilla from the wood that will be assimilated by the time of bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with a sorbet-like freshness. There is plenty of blood orange towards the structured finish that feels precise and mineral-driven. Excellent. 2022 - 2040

Burghound, January 2019, Score: 90-93
Once again there is a lovely coolness and restraint to the quite pure aromas of gently earthy red and dark currant scents. The vibrant and beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing and rich mouthfeel though the solidly long and complex finish progressively tightens up as it sits on the palate. This should be approachable young but amply reward mid-term cellaring. Drink 2027+

Wine Advocate, January 2019, Score: 90-92
Satiny and seductive, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes displays a pretty nose of ripe cherries, cassis, dried flowers and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and lavish on the attack, with satiny tannins, succulent acids and a generous core of fruit, concluding with good persistence on the finish. It's an immensely charming Cherbaudes that will be difficult to resist.
Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
