A classical blend of 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet franc this is a beautifully expressive example of Pomerol offering exceptional value. An abundance of copious plum and fresh fig aromas with floral hints of lavender and violets. A wonderfully attention seeking palate, with rich plush Merlot flavours, it's striking succulence is kept perfectly in check by fresh red cherry fruits from the Cabernet franc , the tannins are supple and the finish fresh and long. Drink 2026-2034.
The 2018 La Pointe needs some coaxing from the glass, eventually offering scents of blackberry, truffle oil, hints of mint and violet. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black fruit mixed with cedar and graphite, nicely focused with a gentle grip on the finish. I appreciate the spiciness that lingers on the aftertaste and it should evolve into a fine Pomerol. Drink 2023-2043.
The 2018 La Pointe is a supple, easygoing Pomerol to drink now and over the next few years. Sweet red berry fruit, cedar, new leather, dried flowers and tobacco are all nicely layered. Medium in body and charming, La Pointe has plenty to offer. This understated, gracious Pomerol could very well surprise somewhere down the line. Drink 2022-2033.
Pretty aromas of blueberries, violets, dark chocolate and cedar. It’s full-bodied with firm, powdery tannins. Polished and creamy with a core of ripe black and blue fruit. Try from 2024.

The small sub-region of Pomerol is situated north-east of the industrious city of Libourne. Pomerol's soils are predominately iron-rich clay with a smattering of gravel that produce wines with extraordinary power and depth. As a result of this clay-dominance, it has the highest percentage of Merlot planted in all of Bordeaux. Certain châteaux are produced exclusively from this grape, but most incorporate smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc as well. Despite its hefty (if not exclusive) proportion of Merlot, many people think of wines from this region as separate entities. As one wine aficionado stated recently, "It's not Merlot. It's Pomerol." Despite the region's small size, Pomerol contains some of the world's most sought after (and expensive) wines including Pétrus, Le Pin, Lafleur, l'Evangile and Vieux Château Certan. Unlike other Bordelais subregions, there is no system of classification. The châteaux are traded on reputation alone.
