  • Goedhuis, December 2019

The domaine owns 11 different parcels across the village, so it is unsurprisingly a model Chambolle. Classic red cherry on the nose, this is silky and layered with a warming glossy texture. The generous palate with its sweetness and ripe fruit is foiled superbly by a line of bright acidity on the finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 87-89

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village is a blend of 11 parcels and aged in 20% new oak. It offers pretty blueberry and raspberry aromas on the nose, which is quite understated in the context of the vintage. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry with supple tannins and good acidity, though perhaps the finish is just missing a little flair and complexity. Drink over the next decade. Drink 2021-2030

  • Burghound, January 2020, Score: 87-89

The liqueur-like aromas of plum, spice and dark raspberry are also quite ripe without being unduly jammy. There is slightly better energy to the relatively fine and nicely detailed medium-bodied flavors that exude a refreshing salinity on the clean, focused and mildly austere finale. Drink 2024+

  • Wine Advocate, January 2020, Score: 89-91

Wafting from the glass with notes of cherries, raspberries, rose petals and orange rind, the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village is medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, with refined tannins, lively acids and a perfumed finish.

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
