Goedhuis, December 2021
One of the great wines of the vintage, this has huge stature. An array of spice, wild strawberry and rose petal. It boasts finesse and charm; the tannins are tender and fine, yet certainly present. Great clarity, with a bright degree of freshness, all the components are in harmony and the flavours seem to linger forever.

The 2020 Echézeaux Grand Cru offers mulberry, sous-bois and very subtle star anis aromas on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, quite taut and fresh, linear at the moment with touches of blood orange and Clementine towards the finish. Give this several years in bottle. Touches of bitter chocolate and kirsch are present on the spicy aromas of plum, violet and soft wood. The finer if not denser flavors possess a velvety texture while also coating the palate with dry extract on the dusty and chalky finish that is likewise youthfully austere. I very much like the depth and persistence and this beauty should also age gracefully for as long as most anyone would like. Drink 2037+

I would argue that this is an even finer wine than the Clos de Vougeot and it is certainly a more hedonistic creature and with this complexity and extrovert nature comes real class and determination. The potential here is staggering and while many will make the mistake of drinking it too young, because it tastes so darned good, I have no doubt that this will senesce into a spectacular wine in its old age.

Jasper Morris MW, January 2022, Score: 93-96
Medium to dark purple colour. There is some elegance to the bouquet, and a really vital ravishing intensity of pure very intense raspberry fruit with some black spice notes as well. A dainty fresh feel at the back. Some more ethereal aspects are in prospect, though these will take time to emerge.
Region
Echézeaux
One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
