The growers in St Aubin like to think of this as their little Grand Cru due to its very special location above Chevalier Montrachet. They have 5 different parcels on the hillside which they blend at the end of vinification. A restrained style, with flavours of lemon zest and Seville orange and a velvet edge of honeysuckle. It has the feeling of a coiled spring, tight, intense, and eager to jump out. It will require some ageing, but there is so much potential here. Definitely worth putting aside for a year or two.

  • Neal Martin, May 2024, Score: 91

The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru appears to possess more oak on the nose, and at the moment, this obscures some of the terroir expression compared to its peers. The palate is showing a bit of oak at the moment, but it is not too obtrusive and will be subsumed with time. Peppery in style towards the finish, I admire the persistence of this En Remilly, and it should age well in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

  • Neal Martin, December 2021, Score: 91-93

The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru unfurls beautifully in the glass, revealing scents of honeysuckle, white tea, jasmine and dried honey, all very well defined. The well-balanced palate shows a touch of reduction on the entry, veins of white chocolate/praline infusing the citrus fruit, and a touch of toffee apple on the concentrated finish. Excellent. • Jasper Morris MW, January 2022, Score: 90-93

The domaine has five plots for 1.50ha, encompassing different terroirs. This is a big wine with some heat at the back but it is more about the fruit rather than cooked stones which has happened with some producers in recent years. Enough acidity. This is good in 2020.

Their strict principles of using only natural yeast, having a slow, cool fermentation and little ‘débourbage' (draining the juice fromits sediment) contributes to their pure, fresh flavours and impeccable balance. The domaine is now run by brothers Pierre-Yves, Damien and Joseph who took over from their semi-retired father several years back. The "changing of the guard" has had little effect on the wines. The only notable difference is less stirring of the lees in order to retain the wines' mineral undertones. And as aresult, they are as delicious and sincere as ever.Read less

Region

Saint Aubin

Due west of Puligny and Chassagne lies the little, picturesque village of St. Aubin. With the neighbouring village of Gamay, it produces 2/3 white wine and 1/3 red wine over 230 hectares of vines of which over 3/4 are premier cru. It was one of the last appellations created in only 1970 but has since created an excellent reputation for good value well made Burgundy that can replicatePuligny. Some of the most expressive vineyards are En Remilly and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien.
