    Sitting alongside Criots Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru, Bastien and Philippe feel its characteristics are so distinctive and so good that they merit bottling separately to the rest of their village parcels. This 2021 highlights the complexity of this fine lieu-dit. With white stone fruits and melon aromatics, it is considerably broader and fuller than the straight Chassagne on the palate. The plump almond characters are complemented by the chalky earthy sensation on the finish. Fine persistence.

    A little paler in colour. The light biscuit is there again alongside a more evidently limestone touch. A little touch of salinity behind fresh apple. More in reserve than the straight Chassagne and probably equally fine in the long run. Light citrus at the finish. Drink from 2025-2028.

Region

Chassagne Montrachet

The white wines of Chassagne Montrachet can be difficult to distinguish from Puligny. At their most typical they are slightly fleshier and more hedonistic, but are often just as mineral and refined making the two almost inseparable. When distinguishable, they offer notes of honeysuckle, lime blossom and honey. Many have become quite approachable when young. It is larger than Puligny with vineyards totalling over 330 hectares. Though it shares both the grand cru vineyards of Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachet, it has sole ownership of the miniscule Criots Bâtard Montrachet. Similar to Puligny, Chassagne also grows Pinot Noir, which can be austere when young. A small amount of red Chassagne is also made.

Other wines
