Goedhuis, April 2023, Score: 93-95
A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, this is a rich and characterful wine, with plump wild hedgerow and fruit compote fragrance. It lifts the spirits, with a jubilant abundance of red fruits, fresh cherry, and pomegranate. Stylish and juicy sweet, with a sense of earthy terroir on the finish giving additional charisma to what is a very finely put together wine.

Antonio Galloni, April 2023, Score: 90-93
The 2022 Moulin Saint-Georges is quite rich and dense in this vintage, as is to be expected. Super-ripe red cherry fruit, blood orange, menthol, spice and leather fill out the layers in a Saint-Émilion that boasts tons of fruit density and the tannins to match. All the elements are very nicely balanced. Readers should expect a Moulin Saint-Georges that is more power than finesse. I imagine the 2022 will age beautifully on its fruit. It could very well turn out to be a sleeper in this vintage. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc picked between September 19 and 26. Aging is projected to be 18 months in French oak. Drink 2028 - 2047.

Wine Advocate, April 2023, Score: 90-92+
Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries, violets and creamy new oak, the 2022 Moulin St Georges is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with powdery tannins and a taut, chalky profile. It should flesh out further with additional élevage.

James Suckling, April 2023, Score: 94-95
Fresh and framed with a juiciness but also a coolness and brightness. Medium to full body. Very balanced. Well done. Lower pH at 3.52. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc.

Matthew Jukes, April 2023, Score: 17+
Spicy oak and powerful fruit notes make this an instantly impactful wine. There is superb length here, too, and it is not particularly exotic, sticking to the familiar Merlot fruit spectrum dotted with violet and herb notes coming from the Cabernet Franc. It is simply a larger and longer MS-G than 41 I have tasted before, and the energy and freshness on the finish mark it as a wine that will keep for a long while.

Dense and concentrated but fresh at the same time. A lick of vanilla oak on the nose and palate but not excessive and should integrate. Finely honed tannins. (James Lawther MW) 14.5% Drink 2028 – 2040

Rocking Merlot notes of ripe black cherries, currants, smoked tobacco, and melted chocolate all emerge from the 2022 Château Moulin Saint Georges, a ripe, full-bodied, opulent, seamless 2020 based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. It has the density and structure of the vintage and will have 15-20 years of overall longevity.

Jane Anson, April 2023, Score: 95
A luxurious feel, with velvety tannins, enjoyable ripe black fruits, gourmet touches of smoked vanilla root and liqourice, all well drawn out through the palate, and providing plenty of estate signature. A well balanced luscious wine with a saline limestone twist. 3.55ph, 100% new oak. 28hl/h yield, smaller than across the rest of the Ausone range because of 50 year old vines planted almost entirely by Alain Vauthier when he arrived 1970. Harvest September 19 to 26.
Region
St Emilion
South of Pomerol lies the medieval, perched village of St Emilion. Surrounding St Emilion are vines that produce round, rich and often hedonistic wines. Despite a myriad of soil types, two main ones dominate - the gravelly, limestone slopes that delve down to the valley from the plateau and the valley itself which is comprised of limestone, gravel, clay and sand. Despite St Emilion's popularity today, it was not until the 1980s to early 1990s that attention was brought to this region. Robert Parker, the famous wine critic, began reviewing their Merlot-dominated wines and giving them hefty scores. The rest is history as they say. Similar to the Médoc, there is a classification system in place which dates from 1955 and outlines several levels of quality. These include its regional appellation of St Emilion, St Emilion Grand Cru, St Emilion Grand Cru Classé and St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé, which is further divided into "A" (Ausone and Cheval Blanc) and "B" (including Angélus, Canon, Figeac and a handful of others). To ensure better accuracy, the classification is redone every 10 years enabling certain châteaux to be upgraded or downgraded depending on on the quality of their more recent vintages.
