Goedhuis, August 2023
A vivid nose of deep florals: dark roses, violets, and an undertow of ripe red fruit. The palate really shows the best of each vineyard that makes up the cuve´e. A pure but powerful drive of fruit on a perfect cusp of ripeness, with complexing notes of sandalwood and spice. This is all about harmony and balance with the transparency of fruit allowing the detail to shine through. Silken tannins finish the package.

Wine Advocate, December 2023, Score: 92
The 2022 Bannockburn Pinot Noir is a blend of the four vineyards: Cornish Point, MacMuir, Block 3 and Block 5. It leads with violets, cherry blossom, pomegranate pearls, star anise and cracked fennel seeds. In the mouth, the wine is supple and spicy, with lashings of fruit flavor and a balancing splay of tannins through the mid-palate and finish. Nicely handled wine, satisfying and supple. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2023-2033.

Vinous, May 2024, Score: 91
The 2022 Pinot Noir Bannockburn is pure, refined and lifted with a silky, smooth texture that caresses the mouth despite being shy of mid-weight. Sweet raspberry and cherry meet a finely tuned herby character. It's all well-judged with excellent tannin handling, leaving the mouth coated with the finest appetizing textures that'll have you licking the insides of your cheeks. This 2022 is delectable from the off and will be for the first ten years of its life. Drink 2024-2032.

Jancis Robinson, April 2024, Score: 16.5+
Meaty and dark-fruited. Intense aromas and flavours of ripe black cherries, smoke and leather. Long finish. The velvety tannins will benefit from two-to-three years in bottle. Drink 2024-2034.
Region
Central Otago
For many years New Zealand growers did not know which grape variety could grow in Central Otago. Situated in the very south of the South Island it was always thought that only white grape varieties could be planted. Nowadays however there is no turning back as Pinot Noir rules the roost. There are many reasons why pinot has had so much success in the region, including the dry, sunny climate and the well-draining schist soils. Pinot Noir from Central Otago is usually quite powerful with lots of vibrant fruit and relatively high alcohol.
