  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

The fruit for this wine is sourced from Les Bons Bâtons, which lies between Chambolle Musigny and Gilly lès Citeaux. This is a pebbly vineyard due to the sediment that tumbles down from the steep hills above, meaning that vines grown here enjoy very good drainage. The 2023 is a bright and bouncy red that shines with notes of fresh raspberries and sun-warmed red cherries. Pure and vibrant, there is a lovely juiciness which, coupled with sweet, ripe tannins, makes for a highly approachable wine, even in youth.

  • Neal Martin, November 2024, Score: 84-86

The 2023 Bourgogne Rouge Les Bons Batons offers light raspberry and wild strawberry scents on the nose that would benefit from a little more vigor. The palate is framed by crunchy red fruit and sour cherry notes with a brisk, short finish.

  • Burghound, January 2025, Score: 86-89

Pretty and fresh aromas of various red berries and earth give way to vibrant and well-detailed flavors that possess a succulent mid-palate before concluding in a mildly austere and persistent finale. Solid quality here for its level.

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2025, Score: 16.5

Smells almost bloody. Then roses. Then strawberries and oranges. Intensity of fruit and so very vibrant. Vivid. Vital. Stone-dust crunching finish. Fabulous. Mouth-filling. Joyful. (TC)

  • Jasper Morris MW, November 2024, Score: 89-92

Darker centre to the colour in the middle. 50% new wood. Shows a bit on the nose but otherwise a decent concentration of darker berried fruit. A few tannins present on the palate, but overall more coherent and much more persistent than the village wine, indeed a lovely aftertaste on alpine strawberry and fresh cherry. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Nov 2024.

Exquisitely pure, ethereal, and terroir-driven, Ghislaine’s wines also have wonderful mineral raciness. The domaine was originally created by Marcel Noëllat, Ghislaine’s maternal grandfather. After attending viticultural college in Beaune in the 1980s, she began assisting her father, Gaston Barthod, at the family domaine. Her straightforward, no-nonsense approach helped introduce a sorting table, extended lees contact, a gentle cold soak before fermentation, and domaine bottling. All this enabled greater control over the quality of fruit, texture of tannins, and purity of flavours. The results have been year upon year of magical masterpieces from Chambolle Musigny. Along with her partner Louis Boillot, today she is joined in the vineyard and cellar by their son, Clément.Read less

Region

Bourgogne

This blanket regional appellation can apply to wines throughout Burgundy (60% of the area's production) as long as they comply with regulations relating to grape type, yield and alcohol content. Reds and roses are from Pinot Noir or Gamay. Whites are Chardonnay. They are usually the most straightforward of the Burgundy wines, and as a result are the least expensive and the most approachable upon release. In the hands of a more serious producer these can represent exceptional value and quality. The wines are made with the same care and attention to detail as their grander wines. However, they may not qualify for a village or communal appellation because the vines are too young or the vineyard area is outside the appellation boundary.
