  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

Lieu dit Au Leurey has a northerly exposure and lies immediately over the road from the winery’s eponymous monopole vineyard. The Arlot rows here are only planted to Chardonnay. The 2023 is a poised and fresh white with aromas of confit lemon, grapefruit and just-ripe yellow plums. Refined and delicately fashioned, there is a creamy texture to the mid-palate, with refreshing acidity and a light hint of bitter almond on the finish.

  • Neal Martin, November 2024, Score: 88

Tasted from bottle, the 2023 Côte de Nuits Villages Blanc Au Leurey has a slightly reductive nose, curiously reminiscent of a fine Rhône wine. The palate is fresh, vibrant and quite precise, with crisp acidity, fine tension and a flattering, sunny, yellow-fruited finish. Fine.

  • Jasper Morris MW, November 2024, Score: 88

Pale to mid lemon. Refreshing ripe citrus on top of white stone fruit, supple and persistent. The lightest of gunflint reductions. Softer across the palate than the Hautes Cotes, but charming. Drink from 2026-2027. Tasted Nov 2024.

Producer

Domaine de l'Arlot

Domaine de l'Arlot was created in 1987 when AXA Millésimes purchased the property in Prémeaux, just south of Nuits St Georges. Its history as a domaine, however, stretches back far into the Burgundian annals passing through the Vienot and Belin dynasties before AXA’s acquisition. The domaine’s recent history has been shaped by the influence of Jean-Pierre de Smet who ran the domaine for almost two decades before Christian Seely took over direction. In 2014 Christian installed Géraldine Godot as technical manager and winemaker. A native Burgundian, she is a qualified microbiologist and oenologist, and looks set for a bright future at this Côte de Nuits estate. The domaine favours whole bunch fermentation, seeking to produce wines with refinement and finesse. (Not to be confused with Domaine Arlaud in Morey St Denis.)

Region

Côte de Nuits Villages

This communal appellation covers the vineyards of Fixin, Brochon, Premeaux, Comblanchien, and Corgoloin. Spread along the length of the Cotes de Nuits the wines of the different communes are, unsurprisingly, varied, reflecting a range of different exposures and nuances of soild type. The vast majority of production is red, with just a smattering of Chardonnay grown. The reds can offer very good value from the better producers.
