Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
Domaine de l’Arlot is 15 hectares in total and their largest monopole, Clos des Forêts St Georges, accounts for an impressive 7.2 hectares. Alongside Les St Georges, which sits immediately to the north, Clos des Forêts is considered by many to merit Grand Cru status. Sometimes a little shy when young, the 2023 is atypically forthcoming with an exuberant, open nose exhibiting notes of bright red cherry, grenadine, baked earth and light nutmeg spice. Whilst the palate is weighty, with a muscular tannic structure in evidence, the vibrant acidity, chalky minerality and layered, complex finish ensures an exquisite harmony and balance.

Neal Martin, November 2024, Score: 93-96
The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Forêts Saint Georges 1er Cru has a detailed and complex bouquet with a mixture of red and black fruit, a subtle estuarine influence and light graphite scents that surface with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with dark berry fruit. This is the most opulent and richest of the cuvées from the Domaine, attributable to the terroir. A dash of white pepper and allspice lingers on the finish. Excellent.

Jancis Robinson, January 2025, Score: 17
The same fruit sweetness as on the Clos de l'Arlot and even more aromatic intensity. Deep, gently chewy, beautifully structured and long. (JH)

Jasper Morris MW, November 2024, Score: 92-94
A fuller crimson red. The bouquet has the most energy to date, with floral notes. Raspberry with a little ripe cherry, a fraction more tannin, but refined, with a long clean finish. Good fresh fruit all across the palate, this will make a Clos des Forêts of distinction.

Region
Nuits Saint Georges
The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
