    Located just above La Romanée, this high-class Premier Cru has extremely shallow, fast-draining topsoil that forces the vines to push through into the limestone bedrock beneath. Cathiard’s quarter of a hectare was replanted in 1995, with the vines now really starting to come into their stride. With perfumed notes of white pepper, wild herbs and red cherry shot through with a savoury whisp of smoke, this wine entices from the outset. The rounded and weighty palate is full of delightful fruit sweetness, silky, sleek tannins and shimmering acidity. Whilst of great substance and power, this is a Pinot of elegance and finesse that will undoubtedly bring great joy as it further unfurls its charms with careful cellar ageing.

    A more restrained yet strikingly elegant nose features a cool and beautifully spicy array of various red berries, especially cherry and raspberry, along with plenty of floral influence. The equally cool, pure and sleek medium-bodied flavors possess a completely different mouthfeel as here it’s seductive and velvety, all wrapped in a firm, palate coating and gorgeously long finish. Textbook Reignots.

    The Reignots was planted in 1997 so these are no longer young vines. A fine mid ruby purple. Immediate elegance and charm. A few tendrils of oak playing around the vivid fresh red fruit. On the palate the oak also shows its presence but this will calm with time.

He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Sylvain Cathiard is one of the top growers in Vosne Romanée, a region not shy of exceptional talent. He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
