  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2025

The Javillier parcel on this great Grand Cru site showcases the exuberance that has come to be expected from a classic Corton Charlemagne. Vinified in one-year-old barrels, there is a wealth of aromas on the nose: panna cotta, crème brulée and almond. A broad and full wine, this is extremely giving, and the finish of warm toffee and buttered toast make it utterly irresistible. A Grand Cru in every way!

  • Burghound, April 2026, Score: 95

Smoky aromas of white orchard fruit and lemon-lime also display a broad range of floral elements. There is more size, weight and power to the markedly bigger-bodied flavors that also flash a borderline aggressive minerality on the bone-dry, moderately austere and hugely long finale. Not surprisingly for a young CC, it's currently an impenetrable block and a wine that's going to need extended keeping. This too is very much worth your interest. Drink 2036+

  • JMO, November 2025, Score: 92-94

Full yellow, very little nose at first and what I find is more flesh than stones. Plenty of energy on the palate, with an oaky overlay, the stones are sitting beneath but this will not be the most mineral of Corton-Charlemagnes. Drink from 2030-2036.

Like all great winemakers he has his own views as to how wines should be made and the benefits of ageing both in cask and bottle and everything is thought out meticulously with this in mind. He makes wonderfully textbook wines, which for us are the most perfect reflection of the wines of Meursault. His wines have the natural exuberance that one expects from this the most exotic of the three famous white Côte de Beaune villages, whilst having a complexity of texture that only the very finest vineyards and producers ever seem to produce.Read less

Corton Charlemagne

As legend goes, Charlemagne, king of the Franks, ordered Chardonnay planted in the vineyard of Corton during his reign in the 8th century so as he would not stain his light-coloured beard during moments of great thirst. This may be mere romantic fallacy, but what cannot be denied is the exceptional quality of this Grand Cru appellation in Aloxe Corton in the Cote de Beaune.
