  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, February 2026

Domaine des Lambrays owns almost 50% of this excellent 1er Cru lying outside its entrance gates. A soft and charming wine, plenty of red cherry characters, with suave silky tannins. Extremely polished and delish finish of sweet raspberry coulis flavours. A lovely hedonistic style. David Roberts MW

  • Neal Martin, Janaury 2026, Score: 90-92

The 2024 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Sorbet 1er Cru comes from more ferrous soils. This has a more backward nose than the Clos Baulets at the moment, slightly darker fruit with subtle potpourri aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins, crisp acidity, just a touch of mulberry and rose hip, leading to a finish slightly sweeter than the Clos Baulets but less sophisticated. Drink 2027-2038

  • Burghound, January 2026, Score: 91-93

(from a total holding of 1.15 ha at the top of the vineyard; 40% whole clusters). Once again there is a lovely coolness to the markedly floral, airy and elegant nose of the essence of red cherry and softly earthy scents. There is an equally refined mouthfeel to the beautifully delineated flavors that also exude a subtle minerality that just adds to the appeal of the strikingly long, firm and well-balanced finale. Excellent. Outstanding. Drink 2034+

  • Jancis Robinson, November 2025, Score: 16.5/20

Mid to pale ruby. Rich, ripe red fruit on the nose and palate. Rounded, quite voluptuous and seductive. Open for business. Drink 2027-2038

  • JMO, November 2025, Score: 92-94

Red soil. Clear crimson ruby. Perfumed cherry and raspberry, with some rose petals. Impressive density through the middle of the palate, just a few more tannins, still refined, and a sense of greater fruit weight at the finish. The most complete of the three. Drink from 2030-2036

Producer

Domaine des Lambrays

This Morey Saint Denis domaine may have passed through various owners over the recent decades, but one noticeably steadfast mark on Burgundy’s landscape has been Thierry Brouin, making the wines at this iconic estate since 1979 until his retirement in 2017. His signature style of whole bunch vinification for the grand cru has carved an esteemed place for Thierry in Burgundy’s story. The domaine was recently purchase by Bernard Arnault of LVMH, and a new régisseur has been installed. Boris Champy has nearly 10 years’ experience in the Côte d’Or working at Louis Latour, and before that in California and Bordeaux. He and Thierry worked closely alongside each other in 2017, ensuring a smooth handover. Tantalisingly short of a monopole, the domaine owns 8.66 hectares of the 8.8 ha Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru in the heart of Morey Saint Denis. As well as the substantial Clos, the domaine also has vines in premier cru and village sites within Morey, and added two small premier cru plots in Puligny Montrachet in the 1990s.

Region

Morey Saint Denis

Morey St. Dénis often suffers from an identity crisis. They are more fruit forward than the wines of Gevrey Chambertin, yet more structured than those of Chambolle Musigny. It seems in this sensethat they are like middle children, always wanting to please yet not standing out as the noisy one or the notably quiet one. They are however crowd pleasers and for those who feel that Gevreys are too muscular and Chambolles too feminine; Moreys seem just right, offering velvety tannins and tangible fruit. The village offers five grand cru vineyards including Clos de la Roche, Clos St. Dénis and Clos des Lambrays which nonetheless can rival those of neighbouring villages in terms of quality (some even view them as the best in the Côte de Nuits) and various premier cru vineyards.
