  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, April 2026, Score: 95-97

A hedonistic, exotic nose. Fresh and floral expression of aromatics, with the generous yet judicious use of oak providing a seductive spicy backbone. Dark chocolate and brooding juicy dark fruit, but finishes with a lovely long, refreshing lift. A dramatic and ambitious wine from Noemie Durantou, full of the textural richness and alluring nature for which this estate is so well known.

  • Neal Martin, May 2026, Score: 92-94

The 2025 Clos l'Église was picked 8 to 19 September at around 19 hl/ha, aged in vat and in barrels. This is intense on the nose with black berries, touches of licorice and cassis, cohering nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins on the entry that lend tension. Very good weight and density in this Pomerol, structured with gentle grip, fine minéralité towards the finish that lingers in the mouth. This will require four or five years in bottle, but there is a lot of potential here. Drink 2032-2052

  • Antonio Galloni, April 2026, Score: 95-97

The 2025 L'Eglise-Clinet is totally seamless. Crème de cassis, lavender, licorice, mocha, pomegranate and jasmine caress the palate. Impossibly fine, silky tannins frame the mid-palate. Time in the glass brings out the wine's textural richness and all the gravitas that is such a signature here. Gravel, dried herbs, mocha and lavender shape the huge, dramatic finish. Drink 2033-2075.

  • Jancis Robinson, May 2026, Score: 17.5/20

90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample. Explosive fruit and fragrance. Gourmand fruit on the palate but a solid structure as well. Silky texture. Built to age. Drink 2035-2055

  • Jane Anson, April 2026, Score: 97

Luscious dark cassis and bilberry fruits, pure perfume, peony and red rose petals, a standout in Pomerol, there is an enveloping and expansive mid palate with full on fennel and anis on close of play, so good, a wine full of emotion and grace. 75% new oak. Harvest September 4 to 12. Cooler fermentation than usual, not higher than 28C, because thick skins. 3.5ph. 4.5ha, so only 3 tanks compared to 5 normally, 30hll/ha. Olivier Guatraut cellar master with Noémie Durantou winemaker.

Region

Pomerol

The small sub-region of Pomerol is situated north-east of the industrious city of Libourne. Pomerol's soils are predominately iron-rich clay with a smattering of gravel that produce wines with extraordinary power and depth. As a result of this clay-dominance, it has the highest percentage of Merlot planted in all of Bordeaux. Certain châteaux are produced exclusively from this grape, but most incorporate smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc as well. Despite its hefty (if not exclusive) proportion of Merlot, many people think of wines from this region as separate entities. As one wine aficionado stated recently, "It's not Merlot. It's Pomerol." Despite the region's small size, Pomerol contains some of the world's most sought after (and expensive) wines including Pétrus, Le Pin, Lafleur, l'Evangile and Vieux Château Certan. Unlike other Bordelais subregions, there is no system of classification. The châteaux are traded on reputation alone.
