  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, April 2026, Score: 95-97

The appellation of Margaux prevailed as one of the standout locations in 2025 and this year’s Rauzan is a flagship highlighting the very best the terroir offers. A majority blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot, there is a wonderful perfume: lilac and mimosa summer rose petal merge with fresh red cherry. A smooth graceful style, less focused on muscle and more on refinement. A combination of roundness and precision, its natural fresh lift allows the flavours to build with characters of sweet small-berried fruit, fresh vanilla pod and caramel. Long and bright on the finish.

  • Neal Martin, May 2026, Score: 94-96

The 2025 Rauzan-Ségla was picked September 2 to 15 at 29 hl/ha and matured in 60% new oak barrels. This has a slight marine scent on the nose, well defined and marked by pure black fruit laced with violet. Quintessential Rauzan Ségla. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant but firm tannins, just gorgeous caressing black fruit, bright acids that lend an almost sorbet-like freshness and vibrancy to the finish. This is a top-class Margaux and one of the best wines from the estate in recent years. Drink 2031-2060

  • Wine Advocate, April 2026, Score: 94-96

The 2025 Rauzan-Ségla is promising, opening in the glass with notes of cassis, pencil shavings, sweet soil tones and a deft framing of new oak. Medium- to full-bodied, bright and layered, it's vibrant and concentrated, with a chassis of fine tannins and a penetrating, youthfully structured finish.

  • Antonio Galloni, April 2026, Score: 95-97

The 2025 Rauzan-Ségla is totally seamless in the glass. Dark-toned fruit, mocha, new leather, licorice, menthol and dried herbs infuse the palate with tremendous textural depth. The 2025 is of course very young. The year's natural concentration is its most evident signature at this time, but the rest will surely follow. Polished, supremely elegant tannins support the finish. What a stunner. Tasted two times. Drink 2035-2065.

  • Jancis Robinson, May 2026, Score: 17+/20

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 1.5% Petit Verdot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample. Deep, bright colour. Delicately perfumed nose. Juicy and structured, the tannins ripe and fine. Long, persistent finish. Clearly has potential. Drink 2032-2055

  • Jane Anson, April 2026, Score: 97

Inky colour, this is sleek, powerful, a ton of energy and uplift, very classy, bouncy, feel that you are very much in the heart of rose bud and iris flowers, DNA of the Margaux appellation, liquorice and black chocolate, really a skilfully constructed wine that will power through the years. Nicolas Audebert. Harvest September 2 to 24, 29hl/ha yield, 3.67ph.

One of its followers included Thomas Jeffersonwho purchased several cases of the 1790 vintage. Over the years it was divided and sold on to various owners falling deeper and deeper into oblivion until the 1980s when its old, wooden vats were replaced with stainless steel and excellent clones of Cabernet Sauvignon replaced the tired Merlot. In 1994, the château was taken over by Chanel who have continued this drive for quality.Read less

Region

Margaux

Plump, silky and seductive are the words often used to describe wines from Margaux. Because of their style, they tend to be user friendly and more approachable when young. This is in part due to its terroir which is comprised of the thinnest soil as well as the highest proportion of chunky gravel in all of the Médoc. It drains well but also is it more susceptible to vintage variation. Margaux wines tend to have the highest proportions of Merlot within the core of the Médoc further adding to their ample roundness and openness. Margaux is home to the largest number of classified growths including its namesake first growth, Château Margaux, as well as third growths, Palmer and d'Issan.
