Five days have passed since our Chandon de Briailles dinner. It was such a delicious dinner and the wines so good that The White Swan and these great wines deserve a huge plug.
The White Swan did brilliantly, the cod was superb and the saddle of rabbit so good that even AA Gill would have been impressed. Furthermore it was very brave of the chef to serve rabbit at a time when Cara Delevingne’s rabbit has more followers on twitter than David Cameron and Nigel Farage put together.
As to the wines the whole range was brilliant but the following were my out and out favourites.
For drinking now: Pernand Vergelesses Blanc 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses 2011, a glorious white Burgundy for drinking now and over the next 3 years, Savigny lès Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières 2006, delicious and excellent value, and the stunning Corton Bressandes 2006.
For laying down it has to be the Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses 2010 which will be a fabulous wine. Finally, it was a toss up between the two young Cortons, but Claude persuaded me that the 2010 just had the edge.
