Dom Pérignon 2006 for breakfast?

Archive

Not much can kick start a week on a more perfect note than drinking Dom Pérignon for breakfast, especially a vintage as impressive as 2006. There is a very good reason for the flurry of recent releases from Champagne, 2006 is a superlative vintage and one not to be missed. The Comtes de Champagne and Cristal releases have both received high praise from the critics, scoring 97+ and 97 respectively. However, we feel this release of Dom Pérignon shows a refinement, intensity and tension which easily places it in the same league, if not higher.

DP-2006-Label-1

We are all convinced everybody should be drinking more vintage Champagne; it is really starting to make its presence felt in terms of quality and longevity, and the best can age with the depth and complexity of any great Grand Cru white Burgundy. Due to this early release, the 2006 Dom Pérignon is yet to go under the critics’ pen, but at this stage it shows all the hallmarks of a true classic; finesse combined with power, complexity and beautiful intensity of fruit. This is one for the true Champagne collector.

2006 Dom Pérignon: £455 per 6 bottle case IB

Very bright and pale in the glass. The nose is incredibly tight and takes a good 15 minutes to unfurl; notes of zesty citrus fruits, smoky slate and flint minerals; very clean, fresh and pure with bags of intensity. It is only after some time that hints of brioche emerge; one has to give this time in the glass to reveal its soul. The palate reflects the nose, reticent to begin with, but in time notes of citrus zest and white flowers mingle with the classic smoky, toasty and mineral complexity; further still the creamy brioche returns as well as fleshy, juicy white peach flavours. The finish is long with great citrus intensity, zesty and mouth-watering. This is a Dom Pérignon for the cellar, one to be laid down to mature; it has the potential to develop into something really quite special.

We are proud to have such an excellent working relationship with Moët Hennessy and they have offered us this small pre-release parcel available to our customers at a very attractive opening price of £455.00 per six IB. (This makes it less than the more opulent vintages such as 2005 and 2004).

Please note the wine will be available for delivery or in bond transfer at the end of October. Magnums will not be released until 2016.
