A pretty if slightly candied nose offers up notes of red cherry, raspberry, lavender and rose petal. The candied aspect can also be found on the light weight flavors that do eventually firm up on the mildly edgy finish. A curious showing where my predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt. 88-91/100. Drink from 2025 onwards.

The aromatic profile here is slightly riper though also very fresh and airy featuring notes of red and black pinot fruit liberally laced with violet nuances that give way to earthy medium weight plus flavors that possess excellent mid-palate fat and enough structure to suggest up to a decade's worth of improvement. I quite like this and overall, it's an interim step between the purity of the Lavaut and the muscle and size and weight of the bigger grands crus.

There is again excellent volume to the tautly muscular yet sleek medium weight flavors that deliver even better complexity on the balanced, firm and sneaky long finish. This is another wine to consider as it's lovely and built-to-reward a decade plus of aging. Outstanding. Drink 91-93

Cool hints of green tea are present on the beautifully pure, fresh and decidedly airy aromas of both red and dark currant, forest floor and a whiff of crushed fennel. The super-sleek, intense and beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors possess a bit more size and weight with a more evident bead of minerality while delivering excellent length and power on the slightly more austere finale. This beauty will need at least some patience to more completely unwind and add backend flesh. Drink 2031+

This was one of the showstoppers in her range. Bright fresh cranberry and pomegranate scent, it balances fresh red fruits with a touch of warm oriental spice. Its taut tannic core lifts the palate. This is a wine which competes with the Grands Crus of the vintage, it is stupendous.

Situated on the higher slopes of Chambolle Musigny, this vineyard is a neighbour to Bonnes Mares Grand Cru and has a very similar soil composition. Despite the substantial ½ hectare owned, they have produced only three casks this year. Brilliant aromatic red cherry and cranberry fruit, this has a firm crisp directness. The spice of oak is apparent in the mid-palate, but it finishes with drive and pure fruit energy.

The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, more sorbet-like than the Les Baudes and slightly candied towards the finish but without quite the same pedigree. However, with such small yields it has a stunning intensity of harmonious red cherry fruits. Silky in nature, with fine powdery tannins, this is a beautiful representation of Vosne Romanée.

The palate is medium-bodied with an edgy opening and fine acidity. There's a little fleshiness here with a savory, tobacco-tinged finish. Fine, though the Les Cailles has a little more panache.

A more restrained if less elegant nose is comprised by notes of herbal tea, red and dark cherry and plenty of earth character along with a hint of the sauvage. The solidly concentrated and highly energetic middleweight flavors possess a positively gorgeous texture that carries over to the firm, youthfully austere and beautifully long finish. This stony and overtly powerful Gevrey villages will definitely need at least some forbearance. Recommended. Drink 2029+. Outstanding.

Packaged in its distinctive red label, the 2016 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is a rich and profound wine with incredible depth and dimension. Bruna Giacosa skipped over the 2015 vintage because she felt that the fruit was not poised for long aging. From the 2014 vintage, we jump to this 2016 expression, a wine that Bruna says reminds her of the epic 2001 and 2004 vintages. She also loves the 2017 vintage, which I look forward to tasting next year. This wine is incredibly precise and sharp; however, the volume and generous fruit weight promises a long aging future. Packaged in its distinctive red label, the 2016 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is a rich and profound wine with incredible depth and dimension. Bruna Giacosa skipped over the 2015 vintage because she felt that the fruit was not poised for long aging. From the 2014 vintage, we jump to this 2016 expression, a wine that Bruna says reminds her of the epic 2001 and 2004 vintages. She also loves the 2017 vintage, which I look forward to tasting next year. This wine is incredibly precise and sharp; however, the volume and generous fruit weight promises a long aging future. Domaine Faiveley have two different plots of almost equal size, one on the Morey side within Mazoyéres and the other in the core of Charmes below Le Chambertin, and a final proportion which comes from bought in fruit. A mouthful of wild dark berry fruits, this is rich and ample in style, with rounded tannins and deliciously sweet on the finish.

Fortunately, they have a very good supply of ground water, which is so important in a drier year such as 2020. An array of tayberry, mulberry and blueberries, this is gorgeously scented. This wine has the classic power of the Clos and a firm central tannic core, carefully encased by the depth of sweet dark fruits. Very full and great length.

The 2020 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, comes from three parcels, two at the bottom and one in the middle) has a slightly ripe and more outgoing bouquet than the Echézeaux with wild strawberry, raspberry, touches of brown sugar and kirsch. Surprisingly sweet towards the finish, this almost overdelivers in terms of fruit, though it is just missing a little finesse on the finish. Still, it feels harmonious and minerally and I suspect will age well in bottle. Drink 2025 - 2048

This is also aromatically restrained with its ripe mix of black and red raspberry, plenty of earth and discreet spice and wood wisps. I very much like the texture of the round, rich and markedly powerful big-bodied flavors that deliver outstanding length and solid depth on the compact finale where the only nit is a touch of warmth. Patience advised. Drink: 2035+

A dense purple but not black. Deep dark fruit also on the palate, firm tannins, even a little youthful bitterness, which helps to tame the fact that the alcohol is a little bit higher here. Nothing dried out, this is just a Clos Vougeot on a relatively large scale.
