In this late-ripening vintage, there is a great balance of structure, aromatics and mid-palate sweetness. I absolutely loved it. Drink 2024-2041.

Barolo. Tasted blind. Lustrous mid ruby. Ripe cherry fruit with lots of stony, minerally notes. Really develops in the glass. Fine and multi-layered. Quite pure cherry and raspberry fruit on the palate with a layer of fine, chewy tannins that go on and on. Not ready by far, but already quite irresistible. 14.5% Drink 2024 – 2036.

From the Bricco delle Viole cru, or the vineyard most strongly associated with this historic estate, this is a versatile or "evergreen" wine that always delivers consistent results. The G.D. Vajra 2016 Barolo Bricco delle Viole sees fruit from a seven-hectare vineyard with high exposures positioned at 400 to 480 meters above sea level. This site shows characteristic Tortonian-era soils classified as Sant'Agata marl with fossils. These soils have an enormous capacity to regulate the ripening process, resulting in the longer growing seasons relished by the Nebbiolo grape. In a word, the profile here is classic. You get delicate fruit tones and wild rose with camphor ash, licorice and tar. The wine is beautifully harmonious and ethereal. Some 15,000 bottles are hitting the market now. Drink 2023-2050.

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Gruenchers 1er Cru is limited to three barrels this year. It has a sense of completeness on the beautifully defined nose, which features pure dark cherry, wild strawberry and crushed stone aromas, all very perfumed and sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins and a little spicier than the other cuvées, although I find that this drops away too swiftly on the finish by comparison. Hopefully it will develop more persistence in bottle. 2022 - 2038

A mentholated top note can be found on the black cherry jam, spice and plum-suffused nose. There is fine volume to the rich, sleek and caressing middle weight flavors that possess outstanding depth and length on the dusty finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. Impressive.

Whilst still having plenty of body, the 2020 is all about joy and excitement. Juicy cherry, a touch of truffle and fresh tobacco, it is giving, opulent and round. The tannins are fully mature and appear soft, despite having a presence which pushes the wine to further levels of complexity. Very intense and very long.

(from a 1.16 ha parcel of 60+ year old vines; there are two sections, one upper and one lower and this cuvée now uses only the upper). The notably ripe nose is composed of dark currant, clove, anise and lovely violet and rose petal hints. There is excellent phenolic maturity to the supporting structure that shape the fleshy and intensely mineral-driven middle weight flavors that possess a refreshing salinity on the balanced finish. This is an elegant wine as the tannins are quite fine-grained and I very much like the persistence and sense of refinement. Drink 2022+

The production "secrets" and the vinification method of this cuvee go back to the origins of the house of Billecart Salmon and have been handed down for several generations. The Burt Rosé is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Menier and Pinot Noir vinified as white wine with a small percentage of Pinot Noir vinified as red wine. This cuvée is pale pink in colour and unveils a subtle aroma leading to an elegant, delicate bouquet of fine notes of red fruits. Its special method of vinification gives this cuvée a light, elegant attack followed by a fresh finish.
