En Primeur | Chassagne Montrachet

The white wines of Chassagne Montrachet can be difficult to distinguish from Puligny. At their most typical they are slightly fleshier and more hedonistic, but are often just as mineral and refined making the two almost inseparable. When distinguishable, they offer notes of honeysuckle, lime blossom and honey. Many have become quite approachable when young.

This sits under Jadot’s negoce label but is the fruit from a contract with a highly respected grower in the village of Chassagne. The exceptional quality of this superb cuvée highlights its excellent provenance. A layer of panna cotta and jersey cream, this has the unctuous richness and breadth so true to Chassagne, held perfectly in check by a rustic, chewy minerality on the finish. Multi layered and tremendous quality.

  • Goedhuis, December 2023

Named after Damien’s grandmother Margot who was the source of his and Caroline’s prized Le Montrachet vineyard, this is a delicious example of Chassagne village, coming from five separate locations. A wine of volume and depth with exotic aromas of pineapple and mango, rich and creamy flavours, and firmly tensile on the finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 89-91

Originating from four separate plots that are co-fermented, the 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Village Margot has a fresh and lively, sea spray-tinged bouquet with a real spring in its step. The palate is fresh on the entry, quite linear, with just a dab of spice intertwined with orange rind and lemon thyme. Impressive persistence on the finish, given that this is a Village Cru. Very fine. Drinking 2024-2034.

  • WK, January 2024, Score: 90

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Cuvée Margot delivers aromas of pear, yellow orchard fruit, oatmeal and clear honey, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and suave palate that's charming and saline, reflecting the success that this estate has enjoyed across the range this year. Drink 2023-2035.
