En Primeur | Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot

Bearing the name of founder Jean-Marc, this domaine is now managed by his daughter Lydie and husband François. This outstanding estate owes its origin to an inheritance from Jean-Marc’s grandfather, Etienne Sauzet. Jean-Marc learnt his trade as the Sauzet winemaker before setting up his own 11-hectare domaine with some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. More recently they have purchased a further 10 hectares in the Mâconnais. Their vinification process is designed to express the purity of Puligny fruit: a short cold settling of 24 hours follows pressing, followed by 11 months élevage with a weekly bâtonnage before bottling.

This is the first vintage of Lydie’s Clos des Mouches, and there is plenty to be excited about. This is one of Beaune’s most highly respected Premiers Crus, located between Corton Charlemagne, Pommard and Puligny Montrachet. The Chardonnay vines are planted on the stony, higher ground making a wine with richness and limestone minerality. This has a fresh, citrus attack, leading onto creamier lemon posset flavours with hints of apricot and yellow nectarine. Very supple and fine, such a delight to taste.

Two hectares of village Puligny from a selection of 7 vineyard locations makes for a super representation of the commune’s wine. The nose is one of lively citrus, with aromas of blood orange and fresh pink grapefruit. At its core, there is a straight and direct line of minerality which is softened by sweet ripe peach fruitiness. The complexity of this wine far outweighs its village status.

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2026, Score: 18.5/20

I have already reported on JMB’s stunning 2024s in Wednesday Wines Edition 290 (link here), but back then, I didn’t know the prices. Now I can calculate that this wine will cost around £63, it is a standout in the more expensive reaches, without tipping over into the likes of 2024 1er Cru Les Referts (£425 IB per 6), which is another jaw-dropping wine. There is not much stock to go around, so get in NOW.
