2023 Pernand Vergelesses Blanc Les Cloux Rollin Père Fils
£171.00 In Bond £225.94 Inc VAT (£37.65 Per Bottle)-
Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
Sitting behind the hill of Corton, these vines are positioned within a sheltered combe which offers protection and warmth, ideal for managing temperature fluctuations. The vineyard’s warmer location comes through with appealing yellow fruit characters of apricot and melon. A silky, creamy mouthfeel, whilst maintaining a zing of Pernand freshness with hints of roasted nuts on the finish.

Not a year goes by without me recommending a Rollin wine, and all three Pernand whites look good in 2023. Les Cloux is my pick because it has more density than the village wine and it has more brightness and freshness than the great 1er Cru Sous Frétille (whose price has escalated of late). With a more chiselled and Chablis-esque shape than many Chablis, this is a stunning wine and a perpetual QP candidate, too.

Plenty going on here – smells of charred sweetcorn and lots of fruit. Sweet yellow peaches and nectarines on the palate. Sappy and gluttonous with fruit. I think I may have to wipe my chin! Also really, really nice texture ('white tannins'; linen). Quite some depth. (TC)

2023 Pernand Vergelesses Rouge 1er Cru Les Fichots Rollin Père Fils

Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
This, the oldest section of vines within the Rollin estate, was planted by Raymond Rollin back in 1945. The soil is an excellent representation of the appellation, combining clay and red iron with a firm bedrock of limestone. Simon destalks 100% of the fruit, to focus on the charm and florality of Pinot Noir. Shining brick red colour, the red cherry fruit flavours have substance and depth thanks to the grippy tannins sitting quietly underneath. Deep, full and rich, showing the benefit of the 75-year-old vines and the excellent vineyard location.
