En Primeur | Lamy-Pillot

Domaine Lamy-Pillot is exciting new introduction to our fine selection of Chassagne-Montrachet producers in the 2023 En Primeur campaign. Bringing together two VIP names of the Côte de Beaune, the domaine was founded by René Lamy, whose brother Hubert Lamy’s estate is situated in St Aubin. René cut his teeth at the famed Duc de Magenta estate, the most significant owners of Le Montrachet vineyard, before focusing his full attention on his own vineyards in the mid-1970s. Today, this fine 15-hectare estate is run by his two daughters and their husbands; Florence and Sebastien focusing on the vineyards and winery, whilst Karine and her husband Daniel look after the commercial business.

The Lamy-Pillot family has half a hectare of this prestigious Premier Cru, sitting on the border of Chassagne Montrachet Premier Cru Le Chaumée. The white stone fruit and jasmine scent intertwine perfectly alongside the herbal mint and thyme characters. This is so inviting, with notes of pannacotta and guernsey cream, and a rewarding lift of zesty freshness on the finish.

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2025, Score: 17.5

With more grip and tension than many other examples of this style, there is ample opportunity for this wine to evolve and blossom without peaking too soon, and from the Chassagne/Saint-Aubin/Puligny sector, it was easily one of the finest value while maintaining a degree of control and classicism while hinting at discreet grandeur.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2024, Score: 91

Pale lemon colour. The bouquet has a little more precision than Les Combes, staying in the apple orchard register, I like the interplay of fruit and acidity on the palate, with the citrus wash frequently to be found this year, and this is more persistent.

  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

The domaine owns two hectares of village Chassagne, with two parcels on the Puligny side of the village and three lying in the southern sector of the village heading towards Santenay. A striking nose of almonds and pistachio, with a hint of freshly buttered toast. Very giving on the palate, with flavours of peach and nectarine, and a rich, rewarding finish.

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2025, Score: 16+

Crushed walnuts on the nose. Greengage. Quite linear in its clean-cut fruit and forward lines and pressed-glass geometry. (TC)

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2024, Score: 89

Pale lemon with a slight firmness to the nose. A little bit of almond paste and the rectangular shape of Chassagne-Montrachet, while the vigour of the finish, with ripe but present acids, is maybe the best part. Finishes on a pure white fruit.

The family are the largest owners of this well regarded lieu dit, which sits on one of the highest locations in the village above the highly esteemed Premier Cru Cailleret. The cooler, easterly facing slopes allow the wine to balance a feeling of exotic fruit generosity and fresh lemon sorbet zing. Extremely refreshing, with a touch of stony salinity on the finish.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2024, Score: 91

Grapes from less vigorous plants, situated on the limestone upper hillside. Very pale, stones in whitewash on the nose. Classy and classical, with an extra kick of fresh white fruit and lemon acidity at the finish. Persistent, more my style of wine. More nuanced at the finish.

This is the domaine’s first vintage for this cuvée as a white as a lieu die within Premier Cru Morgeot. A tighter more tensile version than the fuller and more ostentatious Morgeot. Brimming with yellow fruits, underpinned by structured dry matter texture, with a long, firm finish.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2024, Score: 91

From Champ Jeandreau and a more recent planting in Chaumes. Clean fresh fruit, not too powerful. Quite lean and tense, a little bit more citrus. A suggestion of some light peach behind, but adding a dimension rather than denaturing.

Situated on alluvial deposits of sand and silt, the Morgeot vineyard lends itself perfectly to Pinot Noir. Bright red cherry and red currant aromas. A direct and mouth-watering style, with a round easy juiciness. A cuvée which favours charm over brute power.
