Clos des Angles is a warm vineyard sitting beneath Clos des Duc. Noticeable wild spiced dark berry flavours, with a touch of mocha and fresh coffee bean showing the generosity of its sunny location. Very full and layered rounded tannins, rewarding and ample on the finish.

The red ferrous soil of this vineyard always produces a richly flavoured wine with great depth, and is amongst Thomas’s favourite parcels within his fine portfolio. A delicate smoky scent sits quietly underneath the perfumed bilberry and tayberry aromatics. On the palate there is a sensation of silky ripeness; the tannins are powdery and subtle in nature and the final sensation of saline freshness at the end gives further quality to this excellent cuvée.

Goedhuis, December 2023
This vineyard lies at the foot of Les Caillerets, but its soil composition is quite different; more clay and pebbles result in a fuller, broader style of Volnay. A deep and almost brooding wine, with a wild savoury, autumnal forest scent. Sloes and bramble flavours and dark toffee. Full and very intense, a saline edge and dark bitter chocolate on the finish.

A blend of 4 different plots, Les Buttes, Les Grand Champs, Les Famines and Les Lurets, from vineyards aged between 10-60 years old, produces a very complete example of the appellation. A crisp and energetic style, with bright, crunchy, fresh fruit flavours. A charming purity and clarity, and hints of what Nicolas describes as ‘sucrosité’ on the finish.

Nicolas has two different vineyard plots in this fine Premier Cru. The younger 20-year-old parcel borders Volnay and the older 70-year-old parcel lies beside Meursault. He describes it as a Volnay with Côte de Nuits DNA. A graceful, silky harmonious style, with Chambolle fruit characteristics, with some sweet dark berry flamboyance. A perfect combination between charm and ample fruit.
2022 Volnay Antoine Jobard

Goedhuis, December 2023
From a single parcel, Les Combes, sitting alongside Pommard. Antoine destalks all the fruit from this vineyard and is looking for a high degree of Pinot purity. Brilliant scarlet colour, with summer strawberry field scent. Sweet and supple in the palate, this has a graceful silky finish.

Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 86-88
The 2022 Volnay Village has a pretty nose, although maybe it misses the complexity of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, quite Pommard-like in style with a marine-tinged finish. Fine. Drinking Window: 2025-2035.

Jasper Morris MW, October 2023, Score: 88-90
Mid red, attractively perfumed, a little spice behind, a touch of pepper, but still quite a good density of raspberry and strawberry fruit. Drink from 2026-2029.

2022 Volnay Vieilles Vignes Jean-Marc et Thomas Bouley
£340.00 In Bond £427.24 Inc VAT (£71.20 Per Bottle)-
GWL, July 2024
This village cuvée offers a perfect representation of Volnay from vines aged between 45 – 83 years, situated just below Premier Cru Les Carelles. A warmer site, this is full of sumptuous ripe summer pudding fruits. The combination of generosity and a red iron soil tension provides a delicious balance between sweetness of fruit and grippy, layered texture. Such a great expression of bedrock terroir and freshness.
