WINE MAKER | Olivier Trégoat
Olivier Trégoat has been the Technical Director of Château L’Évangile, Château Rieussec and Château Paradis Casseuil since July 2020. Prior to this, Olivier was Technical Director of Châteaux outside Bordeaux, ensuring the management of Domaine d’Aussières, Viña Los Vascos, Bodegas CARO and Domaine de Long Dai. Before joining DBR Lafite, Olivier was independant consultant in oenology and viticulture. His expertise focused on soil (soil study, assessment of a terroir, cartography) and vineyard by providing support for vinicultural techniques at all stages, training technical staff, evaluating material choices, vine water status and nitrogen uptake. He also provided oenological advice on assembling and winemaking process.
THE VINEYARD
The first growth Sauternes property of Château Rieussec was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite in 1984. The estate then consisted of 110 hectares, 68 hectares of which were vines. To enhance Château Rieussec’s potential, rigorous measures were implemented, including meticulous sorting of the grapes and fermenting in barrels, which provided a much finer selection for the blending of the grand vin. Today, Château Rieussec’s vineyard extends to the border of Fargues and Sauternes and adjoins Château d’Yquem. Rieussec is one of the largest properties in Sauternes and Barsac, with the vineyard covering 93 hectares of gravelly sandy-clay soil.
