FORTUNATE SON | NAPA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA, USA

Fortunate Son is one of the more recent wine projects from critically acclaimed winemaker, Jayson Woodbridge of Hundred Acre fame. The wines are sourced from heritage micro-block sites that showcase the quality of the vineyards that are the bedrock of the early history of the Napa Valley. Each Fortunate Son wine is made with the same meticulous winemaking and farming practices as the flagship wine, Hundred Acre. They represent a commitment to quality and craftsmanship that very few wineries in the world can match.

“ You, who know Hundred Acre so well and love it, will know this wine was made by me, the second you taste it… even blind-folded you will know…"

THE VINEYARDS

THE VINEYARDS

At Fortunate Son, every vine and grape is treated like a cherished child. Each vineyard is enhanced by a special mushroom compost that increases the biomass and diversity of the already-rich Napa Valley soil, encouraging the vines to absorb nutrients and hold onto moisture. A micro-misting system cools the vines, encouraging the grapes to develop sugars and flavors, while the benevolent protection of shade cloth also cools the vines and slows UV absorption, allowing the grapes to develop flavors slowly and thoroughly, leading to greater complexity.

Harvesting here is an intensely personal and particular process, with the fruit picked block by block and berry by berry, passing through again and again to get perfect clusters at that perfect moment where the flavor is at its greatest richness and intensity. Each pass is vinified separately to hold onto the spirit and individual character of that pick.
