We continue our Rhône En Primeur offering with Chapoutier’s 2021 sélections parcellaires. Stunningly complex, perfectly fresh and indisputably sensual, these prestigious single vineyard wines are a true study in terroir in 2021. Tasting with Michel Chapoutier, he told us that the low alcohol levels of this cool, classic vintage has allowed their sense of place to shine through. For us, they really are some of the finest examples of the vintage. Jancis Robinson and Jeb Dunnuck take a similar view and have awarded a raft of high scores, with the latter rejoicing in "how clearly the terroirs show in the wines".

The 2021s are incisive and lacy, offering soft, polished raspberry and blackberry fruit that is already so accessible. Very classic in style, “2021 will stand apart from the previous vintages, harking back to vintages even forty years ago”, says Rhone authority John Livingstone-Learmonth. THE VINTAGE IN A NUTSHELL
2021 was not an easy year for winemakers in the Rhône Valley who throughout the growing season encountered late spring frosts, trickily timed rain, and raging storms. As a result, yields are dramatically reduced in this vintage, with Condrieu and Cote-Rotie in the north particularly hard hit. Despite the challenges, there are beautiful wines to be found across all appellations, from the crystalline, cool-fruited and finely etched, reds to the taut, racy and fantastically fresh whites. We are certain there will be something to tempt you in this wonderful vintage.
