  • Goedhuis, January 2008

Malconsorts is located directly next to La Tâche and is viewed as Sylvain's best 1er Cru in termsof power and concentration. Its inviting ruby colour leads to a gloriously rich and penetrating palate offering lots of red currant, cherry and cassis. Johnny described it as "a big beast". A force to reckon with. Drink 2011 - 2022.

  • Burghound, January 2009, Score: 93

A gorgeously layered and deep nose of spicy, and once again notably cool black pinot fruit seems to offer up a different nuance with each examination and serves as a classy intro to the supple, rich, round and strikingly pure mouth coating flavors brimming with dry extract on the hugely long finish that exhibits serious power. This is a big yet refined wine that remains the current reference standard for Malconsorts though, happily, there will be more serious competition going forward with Domaines Dujac and de Montille coming to the party. Impressive but note that patience will be required. Drink: 2016+.Comments: outstanding!

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2008, Score: 18

Deep dark yet fresh spicy cherry. Clean, pure, well defined but all bottled up at the moment. Firm and extremely fine tannins. Elegance shows again even though it needs to put on a little more weight. More tenacious though less aromatic than the Thorey. Drink 2010 - 2015.

He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
