    Calm, zen and wonderfully complex, we absolutely love the 2007 Rocche dell'Annunziata. Ample andlayered, its perfumed palate is overflowing with toasted spice, dried fruit and incredibly ripe, yet full-on tannins. Being the smallest cru that the Revellos make, quantities are very limited.

    The 2007 Barolo Rocche dell-Annunziata is another of the highlights in this set of wines. Perfumed red cherries, licorice and sweet spices come together in a nuanced, finely detailed style that is the signature of this important La Morra vineyard. The rich, textured fruit shows marvelous persistence through to the finish. As is the case with so many estates, there is a certain flattening of the hierarchy among vineyards and the Rocche, though very, very fine, doesn't quite stand apart from the rest of the wines here to the degree it usually does. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. This is another strong set of new releases from the Revello brothers. The 2007s saw 4-5 days of maceration and fermentation and were aged in French oak, approximately 40-50% new for the single-vineyard wines and 15-20% for the straight Barolo. The Gattera was aged in a 15 hectoliter cask.

Region

Barolo

With Brunello in Tuscany, Barolo is undoubtedly Italy's finest wine producing region. Located in Piedmont in the north west of Iataly Barolo is comprised of 5 major communes - Barolo, Monteforte d'Alba, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba - though the latter three tend to represent the main styles of the region. The wines are compelling and polished - an exemplary expression of the Nebbiolo grape. DOCG law requires a minimum ageing of 2 years in cask or barrel yet can be longer depending on the producer. Barolos are generally released four or more years after the vintage.
