  • Burghound, January 2010, Score: 91-93

This is the first wine to display any noticeable wood influence with a layered and spicy nose of blue and black pinot fruit laced with pretty floral notes that are followed by the rich, full-bodied and muscular flavors that are at once delicious and serious, all wrapped in an extract rich finish that coats the mouth and renders the tannic spine almost invisible. Drink: 2016+.Notes: from 80+ year old vines in Les Rouges du Bas.

Producer

Domaine David Duband

David Duband took over from his father as head of the domaine in 1991 and has a very good reputation in Burgundy, specialising in the reds of the Nuits-St-Georges, Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-Romanée. The domaine has 14 hectares in total. David believes in the ‘lutte raisonnée' methodof winemaking and uses 50 % new oak for his wines.

Region

Echézeaux

One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
