Burghound, January 2011, Score: 93-95
A wonderfully fresh, cool and complex nose of wet stone and airy red berry fruit coupled with hints of underbrush and pungent Gevrey-style earth serves as a worthy foil for the detailed, intense and gorgeously energetic middle weight flavors that possess real verve on the refined, pure and stunningly long finish. This is a serious effort yet the ripeness of the '09 vintage tames the natural austerity of the terroir.Drink: 2021+
Region
Latricières Chambertin
Latricières-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin next to the Morey-St-Denis border. The vineyard lies on white oolite soils, sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Compared to other Grand Cru Gevrey, Latricières-Chambertin is not ultra-powerful and seems to exude a sublime lacy quality.
