Burghound, Don't Miss, Score: 93-95
A fresh but quite restrained and noticeably cool nose of herb and stone-infused wild red berry fruit aromas precedes impressively intense, powerful and agreeably rich medium-bodied flavors that ooze a fine minerality on the wonderfully detailed flavors that explode on the mouth coating and overtly stony finish. Like the Suchots, this is one impressive effort with outstanding upside potential though note that at least 15 years of cellar time will be required.
Region
Latricières Chambertin
Latricières-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin next to the Morey-St-Denis border. The vineyard lies on white oolite soils, sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Compared to other Grand Cru Gevrey, Latricières-Chambertin is not ultra-powerful and seems to exude a sublime lacy quality.
