Burghound, Janiary 2013, Score: 93
A discreet application of wood sets off a combination of both red and dark pinot fruit along with sauvage, humus and stone notes. This is unusually concentrated for an Esmonin Mazis with ripe supporting tannins shaping the fleshy and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that brim with a fine minerality on the impressively well-balanced and persistent finish. This is terrific and given the attractive prices for which the Esmonin wines typically sell, this should be on your buy list as it offers both quality and value, not something that can be said about all grands crus plus it should age well. Sweet Spot. Outstanding. Drink 2021+

Mazis Chambertin
Mazis-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the north of the Grand Cru area of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vineyard lies on a limestone subsoil, topped with brown, chalky soil. It is sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Mazis-Chambertin is very aromatic, dark in colour and long lasting.
