  • Goedhuis, December 2012

An intense and well structured wine, with ripe broad shouldered fruit, this has the great layers of weight one expects in the finest wines from this famous vineyard and will age very well.

  • Burghound, January 2013, Score: 89-91

An airy cool, pure and elegant red pinot fruit nose also reflects hints of spice and wet stone. The lacy medium-bodied flavors possess a strikingly refined mouth feel as the tannins here are also dense but quite fine. There is a lovely sense of balance to the harmonious and impeccably well-balanced finish. Blind this could easily pass for a fine Chambolle though the best examples of Les Petits Vougeots can often do that. Drink 2018+

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2013, Score: 17

Substantial and racy with really admirable balance and concentration. Drink 2016-2026

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Region

Vougeot

Unlike the other predominant Côte de Nuits appellations, Vougeot's main appellation is its onlygrand cru vineyard, Clos de Vougeot. It is by far the largest grand cru of the area totalling over 50 hectares with over 40 owners rumoured to own vines. As a result, its vineyards run from the flat, clay-dominated valley floor to the well-drained, venerated sloped hillsides suggesting that its quality ending on where it is grown. As a result, it is often the least valued of the grand crus and can offer excellent value, particularly in good vintages where ripeness has been attained.
