The 2012 Barolo Ravera is once again a star. Finely cut and chiseled throughout, the 2012 boasts striking precision and nuance. Rose petal, chalk, white pepper, cranberry and pomegranate burst forward in a brilliant, exceptionally polished Barolo built on pure, sculpted elegance. Over the last few years Vietti has done a tremendous job in taming the intense Ravera tannins while preserving all of the focus that makes the wines from this site so alluring. The Ravera has been fabulous on the two occassions I have tasted it so far. 2022 - 2042

Producer

Vietti

Founded in the late 1800s by Carlo Vietti in Castiglione Falletto, Vietti has become one of the most respected names in Piemonte. The estate’s rise to prominence began in the 1960s under the stewardship of Alfredo Currado, who was among the first to bottle single-vineyard Barolo with the release of Rocche di Castiglione in 1961. He also played a pivotal role in reviving the nearly extinct Arneis grape, earning him the title “father of Arneis.” In 2016, the Vietti family sold the winery to the Krause family, who have continued to uphold its legacy while expanding its vineyard holdings. Today, Vietti boasts some of the most valuable and representative vineyards in the Barolo and Barbaresco areas. Vietti’s commitment to quality and innovation has solidified its status as a benchmark producer in Piemonte, offering wines that beautifully express the region’s diverse terroirs.

Region

Tuscany

Arguably the most celebrated of all Italian regions for its sun, delicious food and rich wines. Chianti lies at the heart of this centrally located, picturesque and expansive area. Tuscany is also home to Chianti's more powerful cousin, Brunello di Montalcino, illustrious Super Tuscanblends and spicy, exuberant whites.
