  • Goedhuis, December 2014

Bright ruby red, this is a fresh clean and vibrant Pinot from vineyards surrounding Vougeot. Deliciously forward, with a fresh lively finish.

  • Neal Martin, December 2014, Score: 88-90

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny Village, which is matured in 20% new oak, has a very harmonious and quite intense bouquet with pure raspberry and wild strawberry scents unfurling. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin: crisp dark berry fruit with black plum and a dash of black spice on the finish. There is impressive length here for a village cru that is compact but focused. Drink: 2016 - 2024

  • Burghound, January 2015, Score: 87-89

(from 11 different parcels; 25% new oak). Here the nose of black pinot fruit and floral aromas is more elegant though only slightly more complex. There is good punch and delineation to the more refined medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a dusty and sappy finish. The sense of refinement is enhanced by the fine-grained tannins and this should be enjoyable young if desired. Drink 2019+

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
