  • Goedhuis, December 2015

This is one of the warmer vineyard locations in Chambolle and thus always produces a very giving style. Generous dark cherry aromas and flavours, this has beautiful breadth and volume. A big mouthful of fruit with immediate appeal.

  • Neal Martin, December 2015, Score: 91-93

The 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Beaux Bruns has a lilting nose of wild strawberry and redcurrant, nonchalant and precise, though not powerful in any way. The palate is elegant and fresh with crisp tannins, red merging into dark berry fruit towards the finish that is nicely structured, understated and with a faint marine influence. I just adore how the terroir comes through here. Drink 2017-2035

  • Burghound, January 2016, Score: 90-93

A fresh and reserved nose that is airy, cool and admirably pure while displaying plenty of floral notes on the restrained red and dark berry fruit scents. The mineral-infused, tight and beautifully well-detailed middle weight flavors possess a taut muscularity on the relatively masculine, rich and full-bodied finish This is a classic Beaux Bruns that is borderline robust while delivering excellent complexity so note well that this will require plenty of patience. • Sarah Marsh, December 2015, Score: 18.25

This is deep and dark and sweet. An alluring ripeness to the nose. soft and juicy and generous on the the palate. It is plump. the tannins are more refined, thick and smooth. There are subtle hints of dark chocolate. The finish is a little spicy. A warm and rich and comforting Chambolle. “We recognise the Beaux Bruns,” says Ghislaine.

After attending viticultural college in Beaune in the 1980s, she began assisting her father, Gaston Barthod, at the family domaine. Her straightforward, no-nonsense approach helped introduce a sorting table, extended lees contact, a gentle cold soak before fermentation, and domaine bottling. All this enabled greater control over the quality of fruit, texture of tannins, and purity of flavours. The results have been year upon year of magical masterpieces from Chambolle Musigny. Along with her partner Louis Boillot, today she is joined in the vineyard and cellar by their son, Clément.Read less

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
