  • Goedhuis, December 2015

Situated in the very centre of the appellation, this always offers a very complete example of Chambolle Musigny. With soft rounded red cherry flavours, it possesses beautifully silky mouth-coating tannins. Whilst not powerful, it is incredibly long-lasting in the palate. Charming.

  • Neal Martin, December 2015, Score: 90-92

The 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Châtelots has an open, articulate nose that really expresses its terroir -- such fine mineralité here. The palate is strict and linear with dark berry/blackcurrant fruit, plenty of freshness and with a steely, precise finish that perhaps just needs a little more persistence. That may come by the time it is in bottle, but for now, it is the finesse that comes through in barrel. Drink 2017-2035

  • Burghound, January 2016, Score: 90-92

A more deeply pitched nose of cool and pure dark berry fruit, plum and violet aromas leads to delicious, precise and energetic flavors that culminate in a firm and linear finish that is a bit more austere than that of the Combottes. This tension-filled effort should be approachable after 4 to 5 years of bottle age yet reward up to a decade. Drink 2022+

  • Sarah Marsh, December 2015, Score: 18.2

The nose is more upright and spicy. Good tension on the attack. It is zesty, vital and bright. Crunchy red fruits; slightly more grassy tannins; it is contained, it is spicy and zesty on the finish.

After attending viticultural college in Beaune in the 1980s, she began assisting her father, Gaston Barthod, at the family domaine. Her straightforward, no-nonsense approach helped introduce a sorting table, extended lees contact, a gentle cold soak before fermentation, and domaine bottling. All this enabled greater control over the quality of fruit, texture of tannins, and purity of flavours. The results have been year upon year of magical masterpieces from Chambolle Musigny. Along with her partner Louis Boillot, today she is joined in the vineyard and cellar by their son, Clément.Read less

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
