    The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Champeaux has a gorgeous bouquet with ripe, very floral, rose petal-infused red cherry, wild strawberry and mulberry fruit that gains intensity and confidence in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, tensile and tightly-coiled with a touch of bitter cherry on the tart finish. Engaging, edgy and very focused, this is a superb 2014 from Jean-Marie. Drink 2018-2035

    An expressive aromatic palate to begin with. Rich fruit upfront and then it battens down and becomes tight. It has quite a lot of grip to the end of the palate. A combination of warm aromatics, ripe fruit and a cool, rather more severe expression. “More red soil and gives a richness to the wine and the texture and more iron in the soil too.”

Gevrey Chambertin

The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
