    The 2014 Riesling Spätlese Oberhäuser Brücke--from Dönnhoff's famous Eiswein, Auslese and Spätlese vineyard--opens very fine, pure and coolish on the slate-like/flinty nose. Piquant, sweet and juicy on the palate, this is a highly elegant and minerally structured Spätlese with a perfectly ripe acidity. It's always the latest vineyard that has been picked. If there is a vineyard in Dönnhoff's portfolio that is similar to the Saar, it is the Brücke, and especially the 2014 vintage. It's just great. Drink 2016-2034.

    Redcurrant, lime and mint waft alluringly from the glass. The luscious and delicate palate suggests jellied redcurrant and lime sorbet laced with green herbal extracts as well as mineral salts. The result is coolingly soothing yet at the same time stimulating, not least of the salivary glands. Suggestions of almond paste and candied lime peel tug the long finish in a confectionery direction but without primary juiciness or refreshment being denied.

    Finely balanced mineral and citrus on the nose, smells dry and stony/dusty yet inviting, opening up to a light honeyed note. More honeyed on the palate, sweetish but the sweetness is cut across by the freshness and dry mineral quality. Still a touch of SO2 in evidence on the nose but I am sure this will disappear in time. Dönnhoff is one the best producers in all of Germany and the estate is arguably the most famous outside of the Mosel valley. The family domaine dates from 1750 and is comprised of 28-hectares in the Nahe, a region located southeast of the Mosel. Dönnhoff is one the best producers in all of Germany and the estate is arguably the most famous outside of the Mosel valley. The family domaine dates from 1750 and is comprised of 28-hectares in the Nahe, a region located southeast of the Mosel. Its climate unexpectedly evokes the Mediterranean, and its soils are comparable to the Mosel with the addition of clay, though not as steep. The combination of these 2 elements seems to give the best of both worlds - the focus and minerality of the Mosel as well as the fleshy fruit of Germany's warmer regions. The vines have been passed on from father to son to grandson and now the fourth generation holds the reins. Cornelius Dönnhoff took over from his father Helmut in 2007 after 8 years of training. Cornelius continues his father's natural (and perfectionsit) winemaking philiopshy, producing wines of extraordinary power, concentration and complexity.
