  • Goedhuis, December 2015

A really high class 1er Cru, with pronounced wild forest fruit flavours. This has a focused intensity, full structure and long persistent finish.

  • Neal Martin, December 2015, Score: 91-93

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Beaux Monts has a tightly knit blackberry and briary nose, backward and sultry at the moment. The palate is well defined with fine tannin, chalky in texture with good tension and a palpable sense of energy and mineralité on the finish. This is a great Les Beaux Monts in the making, reflective of its terroir and very precise...but the Suchots might be even better! Drink 2017-2032

  • Burghound, January 2017, Score: 91

Here too there is a hint of reduction that cuts the top notes off of the otherwise restrained, cool and overtly spicy nose that exhibits a pretty combination of both red and dark berry aromas along with floral and sandalwood hints. There is reasonably good volume and ample minerality to the solidly constituted medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by riper tannins while delivering better depth and length on the linear and somewhat austere finale. Like the Petits Vougeots this needs a few years to better flesh out. Drink 2024+

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
